Epic Adventuring

The Borealis Basecamp experience includes an active sampler of life in the Last Frontier. Launch into miles of wilderness via dogsled or snow machine, or take a hike through the quiet forest with no sound except for the wind in the treetops. At the end of the day, return to your dome refreshed and physically energized by the wonders of Alaska’s longest season.

ATV Tours

ATV’s make ordinary backcountry travel feel like an adventure. Guests can take a guided trip through the boreal forests, with photo-op stops at the TransAlaska Pipeline, picturesque overlooks and other notable natural features along the trail. No experience? No problem. Every ATV trip includes gear and an introductory lesson, plus a savvy guide to assist guests along every mile of the trip.

Dog Kart

Mushing is Alaska’s state sport, and Borealis Basecamp guests have the opportunity to experience the thrill of dogsledding. During the half-hour to hour ride (weather dependent), guests will travel along a section of the 800-mile TransAlaskan Pipeline, passing through an active trapline. A mushing guide will describe life along the rugged trail as the dog team swings through the boreal forest. Daylight Dog Kart, .5 – 1 hour: $65/pp.


Mushing

During the hourlong ride, guests will travel along a section of the 800-mile TransAlaskan Pipeline, passing through an active trapline. A mushing guide will describe life along the rugged trail as the sled dog team swings through the snowy forest. Daylight dogsledding, 1 hour: $135/pp; night dogsledding, 20 minutes: $85/pp.


SnowMachine

Snow machines make ordinary backcountry travel feel like an adventure. Guests can take a guided trip across the snowy surface, with photo-op stops at the TransAlaska Pipeline and other notable natural features along the trail. No experience? No problem. Every snow machine trip includes gear and an introductory lesson, plus a savvy guide to assist guests along every mile of the trip.

Per-Evening Aurora Packages

Borealis Basecamp offers evening aurora-viewing opportunities from the comfort of the basecamp yurt, or, if you have a family or group, in a private lounge. All experiences include comfortable seating, hot drinks, snacks, and the famous Alaska northern lights.

Yurt: $35/pp age six and up 11 p.m. – 3 a.m.
Transportation from Fairbanks: $70/pp round trip

Photography

Borealis Basecamp guests are fortunate to have the expertise of Frank Stelges, owner of Aurora Bear Photography and a specialist in the realm of aurora borealis picture-making. Learn the finer points of night photography with personalized instruction during Aurora Bear photo classes; beginner or expert, all are welcome.

Beginner Photography Workshop: $175/pp (3-5 hours)
Advanced Photography Workshop: $325/pp (3-5 hours)
Non-Photography partner: $115/pp


Shuttle Service

Borealis Basecamp offers shuttle service from Fairbanks International Airport, the Alaska Railroad depot, and downtown hotels. Shuttle service rates are as follows: $60/one way, single traveler; $35/one way two or more on same reservation. $90/round trip single traveler; $70/round trip two or more on same reservation. Pick-up and departure times will vary due to flights and train schedules. Please ensure Borealis Basecamp has correct guest contact information at the time of booking. NOTE: Due to extreme winter driving conditions, it is highly recommended that guests utilize the shuttle service.



Gear Rental

Guests at Borealis Basecamp may not hail from snowy locales, and thus, may opt to rent a variety of outerwear and gear including boots, jackets, pants, mitts and snowshoes. Gear is sized to fit most adults; inquire at booking.
