Basecamp F.A.Q.
The aurora is visible from August to April each year, and we see it most nights we have good weather up at Basecamp. We can never guarantee the best time or which time of year will have the best weather. We recommend you visit during a time of year that best suits your schedule and interests!
Each room at Borealis Basecamp comes with a hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, moisturizing hand cream, free in-room wireless internet, a hot water kettle, mini fridge, and complimentary hot cocoa, tea, and coffee. All rooms have a private bathroom.*Please note that we do not have a microwave on property available.
We do try our hardest to place our guests in their preferred room. That being said, we often need to change our guests’ room placements based on a variety of factors, including availability and the mobility of other guests. Please understand that we have been designed for optimal aurora viewing, and every igloo on the property has a great view of the aurora. We do not guarantee igloo placement.

Yes! We allow 2 reschedules per reservation for a $50 change fee each and must be done 45 days prior to check in. Rescheduling your reservation can be done up to 2 seasons in the future. Please note, any price increases are the guest’s responsibility and is due 45 days prior to check in.
Unfortunately we cannot guarantee these at Basecamp, as we are often booked to capacity. However, we are always happy to hold your luggage at our front desk should you arrive early or leave late. Check-in time is 4pm and checkout time is 11am.
Shuttles will be autofilled and added to your reservation upon booking. Please reach out to us by phone 907-885-2845 or emailinfo@borealisbasecamp.netat least two weeks prior to check-in to confirm your shuttle pick up location and time.
Yes! Guests are welcome to opt out of shuttle service, and parking is available at Basecamp. In the winter months, 4 wheel drive and snow tires are recommended. In the event that your vehicle is unable to make the drive, Borealis Basecamp is legally unable to assist and you will need to call a towing service. We recommend Borealis Towing 907-451-8697.
At this time, every room has several steps leading up to it.
We do not allow pets at Borealis Basecamp. Service animals are permitted with the appropriate documentation. Only one animal per igloo, please. Most activities are not animal-friendly, and we do not offer crates or any animal-sitting services. Please plan accordingly!Emotional support animals are not allowed.
As of December 2020, Borealis Basecamp no longer allows drones on site due to safety and privacy concerns.
Unfortunately Borealis Basecamp does have a strict 3 guest maximum for all single igloo or cube rooms due to fire safety regulations. We cannot be flexible on this at this time. We do now have our Family Cube available for booking that can fit up to 5-6 people.
We have a strict smoking policy at Borealis Basecamp. For the safety of our guests, we do not allow smoking or vaping anywhere indoors on our property. We do charge $500 for smoking damage when it can be proven that a guest has smoked inside of their room.
We have a great selection of wines, local beers, and handcrafted cocktails available at Latitude 65!
After 11pm is Quiet Hours at Basecamp. This means our guests are encouraged to turn out all the lights in their room and must hold quieter conversations when outdoors. The purpose of this policy is to preserve the sense of tranquility and peacefulness we get here at night.
We do offer a 15% discount for guests who are military, Alaskan residents, or are coming back for their second trip to Borealis Basecamp. Make sure to mention at time of booking if you are eligible for one of these discounts! (Please note that in order to receive a military or Alaskan discount, one must present their ID at time of check in). Discounts cannot be applied at check-in and must be requested to the Reservations within 48 hours of booking.
